For the protection factor of myopia occurrence process, experts at present most emphasize is to participate in outdoor activities. But what are the reasons why outdoor activities reduce the speed of myopia development? It is well known that ultraviolet radiation in outdoor activities can increase the concentration of vitamin D in the body. So can the increase of vitamin D concentration improve our myopia?
The higher the concentration of vitamin D, the less likely I am to be myopic?
A total of 4124 people who had undergone cataract surgery in the west of Australia were included in this study.
According to the serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D concentration, the subjects were divided into high concentration group, medium concentration group and low concentration group. Finally, the relationship between vitamin D concentration and myopia was evaluated.
Results: the concentration of vitamin D had little effect on adult myopia!
One explanation is that serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D deficiency does lead to myopia, but the effect is mainly between 5 and 25 years old (during the occurrence and progression of myopia). Some people with myopia in adulthood have changed their work and rest, exposure to sunlight has become longer, serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D concentration has been increased, but it can not change the myopia that has occurred.
1.Outdoor activities are still the main way to reduce the incidence and development of juvenile myopia.
2.There was no significant correlation between vitamin D concentration and myopia in adults.
3.Vitamin D supplementation does not improve myopia in adults.
